Will you be travelling to the USA soon? If so, we have an important update from O2 to share with you…
AT&T and T-Mobile, the mobile operators which O2 partners with in the USA are updating their networks. The older 2G and 3G networks will be closing to allow them to focus on 4G and 5G. AT&T is planning to switch off their 2G and 3G from 22 February 2022.
All O2 customers travelling to the USA will be steered to alternative carriers, to ensure you’re able to continue to use your devices.
What does this mean for O2 customers?
You will still be able to roam in the USA using your existing handset and SIM until 2023. From early 2023, if you want to roam in the USA, you will need a minimum of a 4G SIM card and handset that supports 4G Calling. This subsequently means older smartphones won’t work on these networks once they switch off 2G and 3G.
Some of our business customers may need to upgrade their handset. Please visit O2’s website here to find a list of compatible devices. To find out more about WiFi and 4G Calling visit here
O2 are working closely with their partners in the USA to ensure any customer disruption is kept to a minimum while they update their networks.
